Enjoying our countryside and helping it flourish - The Hart Green Grid

Many people have enjoyed our wonderful local countryside during the pandemic, getting out for walks or cycle rides for exercise and fresh air. Indeed, many people report finding places they didn't even know existed so close to their homes.

At the same time, our natural environment in many parts of the world benefitted from lower levels of human activity. The sound of birdsong was enjoyed perhaps more than ever!

Liberal Democrats on Hart Council are keen to make sure that these benefits can continue to be enjoyed as the dangers from Covid reduce and we get back to some sort of new normal.

It would benefit nature greatly if various isolated habitats were linked better together to allow all sorts of species to flourish. But humans too would love to have better options both for exercise and for getting about generally.
A safe cycle and walking route between Fleet and Yateley, for example, Hart's two largest towns, would be a major step forward. Options to achieve this are being explored as part of the Hart Green Grid project, which will guide many changes over coming years.
