"Young people have so much to offer": Alex welcomes local students to Parliament

Alex Brewer MP welcomed young people from across North East Hampshire to Parliament this week for an insight day into life at Westminster, following on from work experience she offered a group of GCSE students in July.

Alex Brewer MP welcomed young people from across North East Hampshire to Parliament this week for an insight day into life at Westminster, following on from work experience she offered a group of GCSE students in July.

The visit gave them a real flavour of what working in Parliament looks like, including meeting Ms Brewer and putting questions to her and to staff from across the Commons, the Lords and the Liberal Democrats. Those who attended said it had given them a valuable first taste of public service and would help with their future career plans.

The visit comes as new figures show 1.01 million 16 to 24 year olds nationally are NEET (not in education, employment or training), the highest number since 2013. The rise has been driven in part by worsening job prospects for young people following the increase in employer National Insurance Contributions.

Alex Brewer MP said: “It was wonderful to bring talented, ambitious and enthusiastic young people from our area into the office for the day. Young people in our area have so much to offer, and I would encourage other employers to give them a chance too.”
